How To Enroll

The Strasberg experience may begin at any time. The Institute provides the freedom and flexibility for students to enroll in classes starting in any of four sessions year round. Sessions last 12 weeks.

International student applicants will be required to obtain a study visa for Strasberg program offerings unless otherwise specified. Please apply at least 6 weeks in advance of the start date for the session that you wish to attend.

At Strasberg, we are looking for serious actors with the talent and courage to be the best in the world.

Every student must submit an application form. The form may be submitted online, or a pdf file may be downloaded and submitted via email, fax or in person. All applicants regardless of experience will be considered and no audition is required.

The application form should indicate what program you are interested in applying to. In addition to the initial form, each applicant should complete the following items:

  • Personal Interview - All international and out of state students must have an interview by phone; it is a requirement for admissions in NY and LA. Please submit the online form, or contact the Institute Monday through Saturday during office hours to schedule an appointment for in-person interviews.
  • Photograph & Résumé - A  photograph is used only to complement the applicant’s submitted materials. A current résumé detailing prior training and experience is requested. Applicants with no prior training and/or experience may include previous employment and/or education, regardless of field.
  • Statement of Purpose - This typed essay describes career goals and intention of studying at the Institute. The statement of purpose should not exceed 250 words.
  • Recommendation Letters (2) - Two letters of recommendation are required to apply: one personal, one professional. Each recommender should provide an appraisal of the applicant on the basis of his or her past performance in a professional and/or academic setting, perception of the applicant’s talent and experience, potential for a career in performing arts, and commitment to his or her craft. It should also describe how the applicant can benefit from the training offered at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.
  • Application Fee - Applicants are required to pay a $50 non-refundable application fee payable by U.S. currency only. The Institute does not accept cash. The fee may be paid by American Express, Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card in person or by mail, fax or email by using the Strasberg credit card authorization form.

Students who are not U.S. Citizens must obtain an I-20 student visa, issued by Strasberg, or possess a valid green card or O-1, or H-1 Visa. The process below is for those international students applying for a student visa issued by the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. See the points below to ensure a smooth application process:

  • Due to strict immigration policies, we strongly advise that all completed international applications be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to start date of any session to ensure admission into your session of choice.
  • A student visa issued by the U.S. Immigration Department is required to study at the Institute, and a commitment to a Full-Time program of 22 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks is required. See the description of Film and Acting Programs for New York and Los Angeles for more details.
  • In addition to the completed application from U.S.C.I.S., all applicants must provide a bank statement indicating that there are sufficient funds available to cover living expenses while studying in the U.S.
  • International students may not work while studying in the U.S.

Once you have begun your application process, our staff will walk you through each step needed to receive your visa.

Reapplication Policy
- Acceptance to the Institute is valid for one year from the issue date. Students unable to attend the session for which they applied should immediately notify the administration office. After the one-year period has expired, students who wish to attend must reapply and pay the non-refundable application fee.

The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute awards scholarships and work-study positions through a discretionary fund aimed primarily at inner-city and underprivileged applicants. Scholarship awards are extremely competitive, and they are weighted to the benefit of students already studying at the Institute.

The Institute does not discriminate in its admissions on the basis of national origin, ethnic background, race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, or religion.

Payments may be made by money order or certified bank check drawn on U.S. bank ONLY.

Other methods of payment accepted include international wire transfer and credit card. For wire transfers, please make sure the student’s name is on the transfer request. Students are responsible for paying all international, New York and Los Angeles bank fees.
