Summer 2004 Issue
SUBTEXT is quarterly calendar published by The Group at Strasberg. Get all the details on upcoming Group events, read articles on the theatrical and cinematic arts as well as Strasberg actors who are profiled in every issue. Every issue of SUBTEXT has photos from productions put on by The Group, as well as great historical photography and other special features.

If you are a Strasberg student or alumni, please keep us posted on your work as we often include information of student and alumni projects. Summaries of each issue of SUBTEXT as well as links to PDF versions of every SUBTEXT are below.

First Issue 2001
David Lee Strasberg welcomes you to the inaugural issue of Subtext, introduced as part of the celebration of his father's 100th birthday. This issue includes a chronology of Lee Strasberg's life, photos of highlights from the inaugural season, an interview with director Adam Davidson, and synopses of upcoming performances (including Jose Gregorio by Patricia Cardoso, The Have-Little by Migdalia Cruz, Dent by Tanya Barfield, and The Summer Winds by Frank Pugliese). The Winter 2002 Issue includes profiles of two new playwrights, Tristine Skyler (who has acted since she was six years old) and Jerome Friedman (who ran the oral surgery program at St Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital for twenty-five years). Take a look at the On Scene section for photos of recent events, and make sure to see the profiles of Callie Khourie, screenwriter of Thelma and Louise, and longtime director Peter Medak. The Spring 2002 Issue leads off with a tell-all interview with Migdalia Cruz, author of The Have-Little, and a profile of the play's director, Diane Rodriguez. Take a look at this month's On Scene for photos from the premiere of Names and from the Centennial celebration, as well as Lee Strasberg's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Read the segment on "Deconstruction of Dog Day Afternoon with spcial guest, Academy Award winning writer Frank Pierson," and the summary of Reunion in Prague, directed by JAck Betts and starring and written by Hildy Brooks. Summer 2002 Issue
The Summer 2002 Issue opens with an interview with Debra Ehrhardt and Danny Ehrhardt. Debra Ehrhardt has written and starred in a trilogy of one-act plays -- Mango Mango and Invisible Chairs, which her son joins her in performing, and an as yet untitled third play examining her monther's influences on her life. Next is a set of profile on three new Latino playwrights -- Jonathan Ceniceroz, Henry Lee Robles, and Rene Solivan. Following that is a piece on Gyula Gazdag, director and co-writer of A Hungarian Fairy Tale. This issue opens with the Strasberg Community section, containing information on current events at Strasberg. The Feature Profile with Nilo Cruz follows, in which he discusses winning the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play, Anna in the Tropics. Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, screenwriter and producer, gives a talk on screenwriting as it pertains to political subject matter after a screening of Running on Empty. Also in featured in First Person Cinema are Shari Frilot (Strange and Charmed), Mollie Jones (Debutante), and Don Matos (The Other Side). Spring 2003 Issue
The Spring 2003 Issue leads off with a profile of Rodrigo García, playwright of 10 Tiny Love Stories, and a small bio of director Luis Alfaro. This issue's On Scene includes pictures from the performances of several current plays and workshops. Following that is a profile of Academy Award winner Martin Landau, who spoke at LSTI as part of the Lee Strasberg Heritage Series. First Person Cinema covers the directors of Derrida, Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Kofman. The issue closes with information on three seminars held in the Marilyn Monroe Theatre.
